Bridport Carnival and torchlight parade 2013
This was yet another well attended weekend of events here in Bridport, It started with lots of local events running up to the main weekend Carnival including the Bridport Carnival Princess competition, This was followed by The Junior Bridport’s Got Talent royalty selection night.
There was also Bridport carnival bingo, carnival golf, carnival darts, and a few other events to get the town into the spirit of Bridport carnival.
Although the weather was not great, the good people of bridport along with lots of visiting tourists all came out in force to support the carnival procession as it made its way through bridport town.
As I have said the weather was not good , but this made a great contrast and a good backdrop for all the colourful and very creative procession floats and walking entries in the Bridport carnival, there were a few personal favourites to me that made very good subjects for my photography, they include a excellent float by Bridport Round Table, that was made in tribute to 617 Squadron royal air force, the dam busters, marking 70 years since their daring raid during world war 2.
There was also two gremlins walking in the parade , a selection of over sized bugs and a awesome spider ( although I don’t like spiders ). Bridport Groves Nurseries entry was very musical with their employees singing and dancing all the way through the procession, even Elvis made an appearance!
Father Christmas was in attendance along with a few of his helpers, I think they were on their holiday. We had the pleasure of a dinosaur from our Jurassic coastline sharing waves and cheers on the very colourful float supplied by freshwater holiday park, Also we were all kept safe by the wessex FM super heroes. there where many walking entries that made beautiful subjects for portrait photography and lots of amazing batten twirling majorettes.
The torchlight procession on the sunday evening gave us all a chance to be part of the carnival with the opportunity to parade through Bridport town, onwards to Westbay ending up at Eastcliff, holding a burning torch.
This was a very beautiful sight to behold with over 2000 people all holding a torch all being led by bridport towns lady majoress finishing with a massive fire on the beach in westbay and final a spectacular fireworks display to mark the end of a great weekend.
I look forward to next years Bridport Carnival
